There are Genuinely Nice People Out There
The Split Second-In Consideration of Others or Look Up from the Phone
I am still trying to get my unpublished book The Split Second: In Consideration of Others or Look Up from the Phone published. I am still trying to get a literary agent. I have not given up whatsoever-just trying at times. I offer my thanks to all who have been so supportive.
This morning, I parked my car in local Trader Joe’s parking lot knowing that it would be difficult to exit from that parking space and drive out of the lot. I put the groceries in the lot and started giving myself a pep talk and telling myself to take it slow. Of course, my fear was colliding with the parked car on the opposite side of that lane. I put the car in reverse and inched out slowly. I do not like being in this position at all. I could swear my depth perception has become worse over the years.
I looked through the rear-view mirror to see two people, one man and one woman, making the motion with their hands that I had more space to inch out in reverse. It was as if they were saying “Come on; you have more room.” In a few seconds, I could hear the gentleman saying just that. Without expecting it at all, I had Good Samaritans helping me out. When I knew I could put the car in forward and drive away, I put down my window and said, “Thank you, SO, much. My depth perception is absolutely shot these days.” I put up my right thumb to further let them know how much I appreciated their kindness. It was rewarding to see the big, genuine smiles on their faces.
I was reminded this morning that there are still Good Samaritans in this world: those relative strangers that will help us out when we least expect it. I hope I can do that for many people I meet in society. For one, I will be “paying it forward” for what these lovely people did for me today. If many folks out there in the world and I do more of that, maybe we would have a nicer world to live in.
