The Evils of Texting While Driving

The Split Second-In Consideration of Others in These Trying Times

I want to conclude  discussing the “almighty” cell phone which is a significant part of my unpublished book The Split Second:  In Consideration of Others or Look Up from the Phone and How to Deal with Rudeness in Others. The cell phone has obviously made a huge impact on our society.

I become quite angry when I am driving, and I see a driver with a cell phone in his/her hand or even using it while driving the phone itself is perched in some way on the dashboard. Of course, the first consideration in this (what I think) abominable practice is safety. I am sure that I do not have to mention the many accidents and even deaths thereof that have taken place because a driver was texting away. The second thing that irks me considerably is while waiting at stoplight, the car in front of me will not move once the light has turned green. The driver/texter is texting away and has probably shifted his/her mind almost totally away from traffic. This is so very inconsiderate of others on the road. Yes, the driver behind this inconsiderate person must honk the horn to get things going. I learned a long time ago that I cannot “chew gum and walk at the same time.” We came up with a name for that: multitasking.  I know I cannot do it well, and I shall never do it while driving. I think there are a lot of folks just like me.

There! This blog is short as well.
