My Freedoms and the Freedoms of Others
The Split Second-In Consideration of Others in These Trying Times-The Fourth of July
I am working on the publicity of my book, The Split Second: In Consideration of Others or Look Up from the Phone and How to Deal with Rudeness in Others, and it looks like something may be happening out there. Please wish me well.
I write this blog on what I think is a precious holiday, Independence Day or as we know it more commonly, the Fourth of July. I feel so privileged to live in a country where freedoms are there for us who live here in this glorious nation. Why else have many sought to leave their native homelands and come here? As I have written, I feel blessed.
The Split Second suggests that while we enjoy our own personal freedoms, it is especially nice to remember and respect other people’s freedoms. I say to myself constantly, “It’s not all about me; I have to remember and be aware of others I meet out in the world each day. They have the same freedoms as I have. This morning in IHOP, two people came into the restaurant after I had and proceeded to take out cell phones and play music very loudly. For about 20 minutes, I lost some bit of freedom as my world had been invaded to some degree by two thoughtless people who were only thinking of themselves. My book, The Split Second discusses how to deal with such incidents when they occur. Still, it was rude of these two people only to be thinking of themselves. I am grateful that listening to the din of that music was brief. I shall enjoy the rest of my holiday and be grateful.
